Hope Clayburn's Soul Scrimmage
Number of discs: 1

This is Hope Clayburn’s Soul Scrimmage first studio recording created from their early years of jams or ‘scrimmages’ at the now defunct Full Moon Club in Memphis. Every week, Hope and a regular rotating group of musicians would extend original and improvised themes into songs that became the compositions for this record. The music created combined Hope’s love of funk, soul, jazz and African beats with the influences of the musicians that showed up each week. The title ‘Love is on the Way’ reflects Hope’s thoughts of moving to a then unknown city that, to an outsider, seems rough around the edges, but after getting to know the community, their is a warm and welcoming vibe.

Hope was enrolled in nursing school at The University of TN Health Science center while creating this record and would often have to play until the early morning hours and go straight to class/clinic but she always knew the higher powers brought her to Memphis for the reason of sharing both her love and the love of her new hometown to the world. This spirit is captured on this EP and garnered Hope a loyal local following and the title track ‘Love is on the Way’ is used as the theme song for the popular ‘ I Love Memphis’ weekly podcast.
